WESTLAND BAND BOOSTERS
GENERAL MEETING
October 12, 2009
Jody Ross called the meeting to order. We took a few minutes to go over the minutes
of the last meeting. Rebecca Pettis made a motion to accept the minutes and Cathy
McEvoy
seconded it. We then reviewed the treasurer’s report. Rebecca Pettis made a motion
to accept the report and Mary Howard seconded it.
DIRECTOR’S REPORT - Courtney
McCaleb
The band will be doing literature drops every Monday and Wednesday until the November
election and Ms. McCaleb would like to have as many students involved as possible.
Ms. McCaleb stated that
Mr. Swearingen, a former
Grove City
band director, would like to speak with parents and students regarding the upcoming
levy. Depending on when he is available, we are going to have him speak at a tailgate
party (which will include hot dogs, etc.) after a literature drop on either October
21 or 28. This will take place at
Westland High School
in a non-gated area. A motion was brought by Cathy McEvoy to budget $200 for a tailgate
party on either October 21 or 28. Rebecca Pettis seconded it. A vote was taken and
the motion was APPROVED.
A band outing at Circle S Farms on either October 30 or 31 was discussed. Cathy
McEvoy is going to contact Circle S for details. Jody Ross suggested that a portion
of entrance fee be absorbed by the band boosters. A motion was brought by Mary Howard
to take band students (need to have at least 25) to Circle S Farms with boosters
absorbing approximately $4 of each student’s entrance fee. Rebecca Pettis seconded
it. A vote was taken and the motion was APPROVED.
A survey was taken in band class with the following ideas:
1) New pre-game show to include a popular pop tune
2) Opener with ten sets to include more difficult music from Cirque Du Soleil
3) Opener with ten sets to include easier
music
Option 1 was the most popular. Barry will
write a drill which will include song “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas and it will
be performed at the end of pre-game.
On November 6 around 11:00 a.m. there will
be a daytime band performance with students in full uniform. The lunch provided
to students by the hospitality committee will be moved from November 3rd to this
date and the menu will be discussed with Megan Rozanek.
